On February 5 and 6, 2026, UNIFI (Antonio Andreini and Sofia Galeotti) visited the new combustion test facilities developed at Orta Doฤu Teknik รniversitesi / Middle East Technical University (Ankara, TR), where further experimental investigations will be conducted as part of the TRANSITION project.
The METU team will test ๐๐๐ optimized burners for Baker Hughes gas turbines developed as part of the project, focusing on the most aggressive solutions that exploit localized injections aimed at improving flame stability with high EGR rates
Next Internal Technical Review meeting will take place in Trondheim (NO) next April 14, in a full day format, hosted by SINTEF Energy Research
NewsOn 16 July 2025, the second Review Meetingย of theย TRANSITION Projectย took place inย Brussels, hosted at the premises ofย TOUR4EU โ Tuscan Organisation of Universities and Research for Europe. Our Project Manager,ย Alessandro Mattia, represented the consortium during aย lively and productive discussion. We are pleased to report aย successful reviewย and proud of the steady progress we are making toward completing our planned activities and achieving the project’s ambitious goals.

On October 16 & 17, the third Review meeting of TRANSITION project took place in Stuttgart at DLR Institute of Combustion Technology, premises.
During the meeting each task leader provided updates on the progress of activities. The event was completed by a visit to the laboratories: high pressure combustion test rig, micro gas turbine lab, fuels research, direct air capture

On October 11-12, 2023, TotalEnergies hosted the 2nd Internal Technical Review meeting (M12) of TRANSITION project. The meeting was held at TotalEnergies Technical Center (CSTJF), Pau, France and was attended by all project Partners. The latest updates on the WPs activities were presented, and two very interesting visits were made to โPANGEAโ HPC and to โRAIDโ Remote operations monitoring center visit.

ASME Turbo Expo 2023 was well represented by UNIFI, Heat Transfer and Combustion research group (Alessio Picchi,ย Tommaso Bacci,ย Sofia Galeotti,Matteo Amerighi,ย Lorenzo Orsini,ย Simone Castellani,ย Umberto Sandri,ย Niccolรฒ Castelli) that contributed to the conference with 13 papers ranging from combustion modelling and testing, turbine and combustor cooling and secondary air systems testing and modelling.

On April 17-18 2023, Universitร degli Studi di Firenze hosted, at THT-Lab, the first Internal Technical Review (M6 meeting) of TRANSITION project.
The meeting was attended by all project partners (Baker Hughes,ย TotalEnergies,ย CERFACS,ย German Aerospace Center (DLR),ย SINTEFย andย SINTEF Ocean). Preliminary results related to WP2 (EGR Gas Turbine integration) and WP4 (CCS-GT integration and assessment) were presented, with useful discussions on how to approximate the EGR process during experimental testing and with the presentation of a number of concrete application scenarios of combined power-plants where the combustion technologies under development could be used.
The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere helping to consolidate the team!
