Sofia Galeotti (Univ. of Florence) and Mario Di Taranto (SINTEF) presented the latest results from the TRANSITION Project at the 12th IGTC arranged by ETN Global on 14-15th October 2025, in Brussels. In the project, a Baker Hughes burner is being upgraded to include hydrogen piloting such as to withstand a higher grade of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) in the gas turbine. As a result, CO2 capture from the combined gas turbine power plant can be improved through gains in both energy efficiency and capture plant equipment size. While the former lowers operational costs, the latter capital costs, both being major barriers to the deployment of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) as a climate change mitigation technology.
